Dabu

Dabu block printing is a labor-intensive craft where mud and nature work harmoniously to create stunning resist-dyed patterns. Artisans mix clay, gum, and lime into a thick paste, carefully applying it to fabric using intricately carved wooden blocks. This paste acts as a barrier, preventing the dye from penetrating the covered areas. The fabric is then sprinkled with sawdust to set the design before being dipped into a vat of natural indigo or other vegetable dyes. Once dried, the mud is washed away, revealing breathtaking patterns in earthy contrasts—each piece bearing the rustic charm of Rajasthan’s rich textile heritage.
